On Saturday 22nd July Killarney will play host to one of Ireland’s premier running festivals when the Gleneagle Hotel Run Killarney Half Marathon and 10km race takes place.
The event will welcome all types of runners, walkers, newcomers and people who just want a challenge and a great day out. Participants will represent 15 countries from around the world including Quatar, Singapore, the USA and Canada. The routes give competitors the chance to run one of the world’s most breathtaking and scenic road races through Muckross House and the Killarney National Park.
Both routes are fast downhill courses with amazing scenery. The Half Marathon starts at Molls Gap and continues through the National Park to the finish line and party atmosphere at the Gleneagle Hotel.
Event organiser Oliver Kirwan said, “We’re delighted that Run Killarney is still going strong and a significant date in the running calendar in Ireland. We’ve been going for 6 years now and it’s as popular as ever with people coming from all over the world for the event. It’s a great way of promoting health and fitness in Killarney and creates a great buzz in the area for the weekend. I’d like to welcome everyone here for the event and wish everyone the best of luck, see you on the course!”
All competitors will receive a customized t-shirt and finisher’s medal and can embrace the festival like atmosphere at the Gleneagle hotel once they cross the finish line.
The event is completely sold out with more than 2400 participants expected to take part.
Local residents should please be aware of the road closure on the N71 Molls Gap to Muckross House Killarney from 6.30am to 11.30am on Saturday the 22nd of July.
